Fifth Crow Farm is a young and growing, highly diversified, certified organic farm in Pescadero, California, halfway between San Francisco and Santa Cruz. Grounded in a values-based approach to land stewardship, Fifth Crow farm was founded in 2008 with a shoestring budget, a supportive local community, and ambitious dreams, we strive to bring eaters the highest quality, best tasting, and most nutritious crops possible.

Primarily a market farm selling to farmers’ markets and restaurants in San Francisco and San Mateo County, we also have a nearly 200 member CSA. We operate on 80 acres: 30 acres of row crops, 3 acres of cut flowers, a 24-variety apple orchard, a young pear orchard, and apastured egg operation.

We will be hiring for three new employees for the 2016 season. We are hiring for two positions related to our growing organic flower production operation. Below is the job description for those positions.

Flower Production Assistant Job: This is a seasonal, full time staff position (hiring for 2 positions for the 2016 season)

Schedule: 40-50 hours per week, Wednesdays- Sundays, mid March-weekend before Thanksgiving

Wage: starting $10/hour with 6-month reviews of performance for raises—with the possible opportunity for long-term employment and advancement.

Qualifications: previous flower and farming experience required, detail-oriented, artistically inclined, good communication skills, customer service skills/farmers’ market experience preferred, basic Spanish a plus

The ideal candidate is: self-motivated, a team player, quick learner, good work ethic, has a passion for flowers and enthusiasm to learn.

This position, under the supervision of the Flower Production Manager, will entail helping with all aspects of our flower production program from sowing, weeding, transplanting, and harvesting, to arranging flowers. It also includes working one Farmers’ Market a week.  This is a great opportunity for someone with a passion and interest in flowers to learn about a financially successful organic production operation.

We are also looking to hire a harvest coordinator, that job is described below.

Harvest Coordinator Job: This is a year-round, full time staff position

Schedule: 40-50 hours per week with advancement opportunities.

Wage: Pay commensurate with experience, starting at $12 per hour(about $24,000/year). Employee also has a one-month non-paid vacation mid-winter.

Qualifications: This position requires strong people skills, a capacity to communicate with enthusiasm about farm products, and significant experience with the harvest and post-harvest handling of a diversity of vegetables/herbs/fruits.  The ideal candidate will have two or more years experience working on a mixed vegetable farm and experience in sales.  This position is ideal for someone who has leadership skills, yet enjoys working on a team.  The ideal candidate is detail oriented and organized, conversationally fluent in Spanish, good at time management, and willing to work in a dynamic and fast paced working environment.

Description: The Harvest Coordinator works closely with the Farm owners, Crew Leader, and CSA Coordinator, to plan and oversee the harvests for 5 farmers’ markets, restaurant sales, and our 200-member CSA. The Harvest Coordinator is also responsible for modeling proper and efficient harvest techniques, noticing problems as they arise and correcting them, and helping to maintain rigorous quality standards.

Responsibilities include:

-Maintaining and updating our wholesale availability list on a bi-weekly basis.

-Establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with restaurant and wholesale clients

-Working closely with farm owner to coordinate harvest for 5 weekly farmers markets, restaurant orders, and collaborating with the CSA coordinator to coordinate the harvest for our 200-member CSA

-Communicating harvest goals to the crew (in English and Spanish)

-Managing and overseeing the post-harvest handling of crops while maintaining rigorous quality standards

-Harvest and sales record keeping

-Aiding in harvest, prep, and packing of produce

-Working one farmers’ market/week
