Spring Rain Farm

Animal Production and Crop Production Jobs in Washington State – 2017

SpringRain Farm & Orchard is a certified organic family farm located in Chimacum in the heart of the Olympic Peninsula.  Our mission is to use the best available knowledge to sustainably and organically produce food for our local community.  At SpringRain Farm, we are committed to conservation and caring for the land we live and grow on.  The land is protected by an agricultural easement, ensuring that it will remain farm land forever. We steward Chimacum Creek, a salmon stream, and worked with partners to rehabilitate the creek and bring back the salmon.  Solar power provides some of our electricity and we are working on other sustainable energy solutions. We think deeply about the health of the soil, the water, the animals, the plants, and the people we farm with.

Animal Production and Crop Production Jobs. We are hiring two positions for the 2017 season: Small Animal Husbandry Specialist, and Plant Production Specialist.

The role of the small animal specialist is to help raise the animals we have for eggs and meat. We focus on humane treatment of animals to produce certified organic eggs and meat in an ethical fashion. This position will work closely with the farmer and the other animal husbandry specialist to provide daily care for our pastured chickens, ducks, and rabbits.  This person will also assist with the harvesting of the animals for meat at our licensed on-farm facility. In addition to animal work, we expect this person to also work on other parts of our farm—irrigation management, planting, weeding, and harvesting of our annual vegetables, small fruit, and greenhouse crops.  A successful person will be involved in all aspects of our diversified farm and will gain expertise in organic small livestock production as well as fruit, annual vegetables, and greenhouse crops.

The Crop Production person will assist the manager and farmer in raising all the annual and perennial plants on the farm.  This includes irrigation management, planting, weeding, and harvesting of our annual vegetables, small fruit, and greenhouse crops.  A successful person will be involved in all aspects of our diversified farm and will gain expertise in organic fruit, annual vegetables, and greenhouse crops as well as organic small livestock production.
