25th Annual Farm Aid Concert – Story, Pictures, Videos

Beginning Farmers Booth at Farm Aid Homegrown Village 2010

This weekend Beginning Farmers was fortunate to attend the 25th Anniversary Farm Aid Concert (the longest running benefit concert in the U.S.) and present a booth in the Homegrown Village, along with a collection of other great organizations. It was a cold, windy, and sometimes rainy day, but the Homegrown Village Event was a tremendous success.

One Benefit of the Weather - At One Point a Double Rainbow Appeard (Oh My God!)

Both the concert and the booth were amazing. Despite cold, wind, and occasional rain, we had hundreds of people stop by to take our "Do You Have What it Takes to Be a Farmer" quiz; learn more about beginningfarmers.org; and discuss their own ambitions and challenges as aspiring, beginning, and established farmers, as gardeners, homesteaders, and farmer supporters. THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO STOPPED BY THE BOOTH!

Laurie and Leif Arboreal were a Big Help at the Booth

I would especially like to to thank: Farm Aid's extremely capable, affable, and good humored Farmer Advocate, Joel Morton, who runs the Farm Aid Hotline and Resource Network (1-800-FARM AID) and coordinated the Homegrown Village; Faye Jones and Angie Sullivan of the Midwest Organic and Sustainable Education Service (MOSES) who helped to make our participation possible; And my fantastic crew which included my amazing wife Emily, and my great friends Colleen Matts of the C.S. Mott Group for Sustainable Agriculture, and Laurie and Leif Arboreal of Eaters Guild Farm in Bangor, MI. Below are a few amateurish, but interesting videos I took at the press event hosted by Tavis Smiley of PBS which kicked off the day's events, along with links to some videos of performances from the concert (Click 'Read More')
