We are an established all natural beef cattle ranching operation in Luther, Oklahoma (35 minutes from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) split between two farms, one being 160 acres, the other being 120 acres. We sell and serve our beef direct to customers through a farm to table café and bakery along with local producers (dairy, eggs, produce) at the 116 Farmstead Market and Table in Luther, Oklahoma. More info on the café is here: www.116market.com. We are looking to expand our own production to chickens and produce. We are unique in that we completely control the process from production to a customer’s plate, raising our beef all naturally, cooking from scratch, and serving our customers in a restored pre-statehood building. We market by providing quality products, word of mouth, and effective use of social media.

Oklahoma Farm Internship or Job Description. Employee/Intern will be expected to assist minimally with cattle production and substantially with the development and operation of a chicken and produce farm. This is a “ground floor” position in that we are at the initial stages of setting up the 120 acre farm for vegetable and poultry production. Cattle operation and infrastructure is already established. Experience with traditional farming methods, machinery (tractor, implements, and the like), cultivation and harvesting, pasture and facilities management (mowing, irrigation, and fence tending) are a plus. A willingness to follow established protocols for the cattle and partner with the development of the vegetable and chicken farming infrastructure and set-up are required. Employee/intern will have primary responsibility for care of the chickens and vegetable production. Hours will depend on the work, which will primarily be working and tending the land, animals, and crops. Animal chores will be feeding and caring for the chickens and collecting eggs, mostly staring at cattle, watering and feeding cube once a week and occasionally working them (annual shots for yearlings, cows, bull, and calves), and delivery of product to the 116 or farmer’s market. Crop chores will be seasonal sowing, harvesting, and delivery. [Your own transportation is a plus but not a requirement].

Employee/intern will receive housing for themselves and spouse/kids (the 120 acre farm has a 1,500 square foot, three bedroom house) and monetary/meal stipend commensurate with skills and productivity, along with food produced from the farm. There is room for the employee/intern’s horse and farm/ranch appropriate pets. Potential exists for hourly work at the 116 café for the intern or their spouse/partner. The position has the potential for the right candidate to grow into a long-term salaried farm/ranch manager position, which we will encourage and train for. Employee/intern will receive direct mentoring and work alongside the ranch and farm owners, who moonlight as lawyers, and will gain knowledge and education on how to run a ranching/farming business, manage a schedule, and find quality of life while raising food in a way that cares for the land we work.
