Ag. Committee Leaders Stabenow, Roberts will Sit Together at State of the Union Address

U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) today issued the following statement announcing that she and her colleague from the Senate Agriculture Committee, ranking Committee Minority member Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS), will sit together during President Obama’s State of the Union Address tonight in a show of bipartisan unity:

“The unity that members of both parties will demonstrate tonight is very encouraging. In the spirit of bipartisanship, I will be sitting with my colleague from the Senate Agriculture Committee, Senator Pat Roberts from Kansas. For years, we have worked together to get things done in the committee, and I look forward to continuing a relationship focused on results rather than party labels.”

Senators Stabenow and Roberts are joining other Senators who are breaking from tradition by watching the speech seated next to members of the other party, rather than members of each party sitting on separate sides of the aisle.

Senator Stabenow is the incoming Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry.
