Agriculture Internship on Community Farm, Fall 2012, Texas

Fall 2012 Agriculture Internship Cardo’s Farm Project is a community farm and education center that serves the Denton, TX Community by providing healthy food grown in harmony with the natural environment, and farm-based educational opportunities. CFP is seeking one agriculture intern for the 2012 fall growing season. The general responsibility of the agriculture intern is to work directly under the supervision of the Farm Manager and Project Director as a member of the farm crew. This is physically demanding farm work that involves all aspects of our farm’s production. This internship provides the opportunity to live, work and learn on a farm and to participate in classes and other opportunities. This internship is a farmer-in-training program for those who wish to gain experience with and knowledge of raising chemical-free vegetables, farm-based educational programming, and community building and outreach. Interns are expected to carry out farm tasks including but not limited to: sowing, transplanting, weeding, greenhouse work, farm maintenance, harvesting, some animal husbandry, and working with volunteers, the CSA program, and farmers market. Interns will be participating in communal living with at least 4 other CFP residents. Work Requirements:

-Willing to work outdoors in a variety of weather, properly equipped.

– the ability to work with groups of children and adults, and volunteers

-must be self-starters with the ability to work independently with
minimum supervision on occasion.

– ability to lift at least40 lbs.

– willingness to handle compost, soil, mud, manure, and occasionally
animals such as livestock or insects.

Terms of employment: This is a full time, residential position. A stipend of $150/week is provided. Food provided includes: seasonal produce and eggs from the farm when available and bulk dry goods. Housing accommodations are rustic. There is no medical insurance provided and Cardo’s Farm Project does not obtain accident liability insurance. Obtaining coverage is the responsibility of the intern.
