Educational Farm Manager Job at Petaluma Bounty in Petaluma, California Start Date: Mid-January. Compensation:  $28-30,000 per year, depending on experience (plus benefits) The Bounty Community Farm plays an important role in helping to transform Petaluma’s food system by growing healthy food for the Petaluma community, engaging all community members to participate in growing their own food, and improving food literacy of young people through volunteer opportunities, field trips and more. As Farm Manager, you will coordinate and implement all aspects of the educational farm, from planning and production of a mix of crops for sale/distribution through a CSA, farm stand, farmers market and other outlets, coordinating volunteers, and managing farm staff and interns, to developing and implementing new program initiatives. Primary responsibilities include:

·      Create an annual budget and production plan and ensure implementation

·      Monitor crops from seeding to harvest, ensuring timeliness of cultural practices

·      Develop and implement organic soil fertility plan and pest management plan

·      Oversee tillage and cultivation, including safe operation of farm equipment; oversee irrigation, and greenhouse propagation

·      Execute basic maintenance of farm equipment, vehicles, buildings, irrigation system and greenhouse

·      Maintain planting and production records including meeting all organic certification requirements

·      Maintain all permits and certifications and state & county paperwork

·      Manage farm staff and interns

·      Coordinate and develop volunteers

·      Develop distribution infrastructure for diverse markets and coordinate sales, harvest and delivery of product to CSA members, farmers’ market, restaurants and City Schools

·      Represent Petaluma Bounty and Bounty Community Farm to the public and media

 

Skills and qualifications:

·      Commitment to Petaluma Bounty’s mission and goals

·      Commitment to organic, sustainable farming standards

·      3-5 years organic farming experience, including farm management

·      CSA/and or Farmers’ Market experience

·      Ability to drive a tractor and utilize farm equipment in a safe and effective manner

·      Ability to effectively manage a small farm labor team

·      Experience and ability to coordinate volunteers

·      Experience and ability to teach organic farming, food system work, and composting to diverse audiences at varying skill levels

·      Ability to lift 50+ pounds

·      Good CA DMV record

·      Demonstrated communications and interpersonal skills, able to work with people of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds of all ages

·      Self-motivated and self-managing

·      Excellent record keeping and good computer skills

·      High standards of ethics and integrity

·      Understanding/flexibility around the unique challenges of farming in community and commitment to meeting those challenges on a daily basis

Compensation:  $28-30,000 per year, depending on experience (plus benefits)
