Farm Manager and Food Hub Manager Jobs in Maine

Farm Manager and Food Hub Manager Jobs

Cultivating Community, based in Portland, ME, has two exciting openings with our New American Sustainable Agriculture Project (NASAP).  The New American Sustainable Agriculture Project supports refugees and immigrants in creating farm businesses. Additionally, the Fresh Start Farms Food Hub supports project participants and graduates to better access markets, and includes a 250+ member CSA and wholesale aggregation and distribution.

The final candidates for each position will have an excellent opportunity to join a diverse team committed to expanding agricultural opportunity to underserved immigrant farmers. They will be joining an established project with significant roots, while also taking on a leadership role with ample opportunity to shape, improve, and grow operations in collaboration with participating farmers.

The Farm Manager and Educator is responsible for overall farm management and stewardship of Cultivating Community’s principal incubator training farm in Lisbon, Maine, as well as smaller sites in the Greater Portland area, while also working with the overall project team to provide training and technical assistance to project participants. In addition to overall management of the farm’s resources and systems for farmer training, the Farm Manager’s responsibilities include budgeting and oversight of farm operations, developing and implementing plans for capital improvements, and infrastructure maintenance and repair.

The Food Hub Manager and Educator is responsible for the overall development of our Food Hub sales and distribution, while also providing core services to our training program to complement and support our marketing initiatives.  In addition to overall oversight of the Fresh Start Farms Food Hub, s/he will partner with the Farm Manager and the rest of the project team to provide ongoing marketing, production, and farm management trainings, technical assistance in the field, and assistance with business plan development and general marketing support.

Experience working with diverse populations, participatory adult education, substantial experience with diversified agricultural systems, and experience with CSA/wholesale management are necessary prerequisites for these positions.

Anticipated start dates for both positions are December/January.
