Organic Farm Picture CaliforniaNow in their fourth year, Four Frog Farm is a 10 acre CCOF Certified Organic vegetable, fruit, flower and herbs farm in Penn Valley, CA in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. Job Title:  Farm Team Member General Description: In collaboration with and under direction of the Farm Managers, Farm Team Members carry out all aspects of the field and greenhouse operations.  Tasks include but are not limited to: soil preparation, seeding and transplanting, cultivating and weeding, irrigation set-up, and Harvesting and processing produce.  Team Members will also be responsible for attending and running Farmers Markets and assisting with local deliveries to CSA members, restaurants, and grocery stores. Job Responsibilities:

Team Members must be punctual and reliable in attendance, and work hard and smart.  Bringing a positive attitude to the farm is also paramount.  Finally, Team Members must take pride in the quality of their work and carry with them humility throughout the important service they are providing the land and the local communities.

Hours:

Start date will be between April and May depending on the weather. Full and Part time opportunities are available.  Workdays generally begin between 6:30-8:00am and wrap up between 4:00-5:30pm.  Weekend hours on the farm and at farmers’ markets are occasionally required.  Opportunities to manage Farmers’ Market operations are also available.  A full workweek will usually fall between 40-50 hours.

Qualities of the Ideal Candidate:

Previous experience is helpful but not necessary.  At Four Frog Farm, their success depends on their small, highly efficient and hard-working team.  They also believe enjoying every step of the farming process from grueling field chores to eating tasty veggies is not only possible but essential.  With those ideals in mind, they are looking for new members of their team.  The ideal candidate will have the desire to be a farmer.  He or she will be physically fit and be able to work hard for long hours in uncomfortable conditions such as very hot or cold weather.  He or she will be a quick learner and be willing to take constructive criticism of their work.  Being able to follow directions and carry out tasks autonomously is very important.  The candidate must work well with others.

Opportunities:

Wages start at $8.50 per hour with probable increases depending on experience and performance.  Upon completion of a successful 2012 Season there will be possibilities of year-round employment and salaried pay.  Professionally taught yoga classes will be made available and are encouraged….  And of course, plenty of great organic produce to eat.
