Overview: The goal of the apprenticeship program at Soil Born Farms is to provide a training ground for aspiring farmers by teaching the basic concepts and practical applications of organic food production, and to use the garden medium as a platform to show how alternative food systems tie into the larger social issues of food security, social justice, and public health. Apprentices are exposed to all aspects of food production, through a combination of hands on learning and structured classes. Although most time is spent working on the farm, apprentices also work with the surrounding community, participating in our education and food access projects.
Work Schedule and Living:
Work schedule – approximately 50 hours a week over 5 days. March 15th – November 1st
Room – large tents and common kitchen/living space in house
Board – Food from the farm and staple dry goods are provided
Stipend – $300.00 a month

The assistant farm manager position is for someone with at least 1-2 years of experience who feels that they want to take on more responsibility than is offered in an apprenticeship.
Duties: The Assistant farm manager duties include general farm work (planting, harvesting, propagation, irrigation, operating the tractor and machinery); maintaining and monitoring the quality of produce and monitoring plant health; ensuring market orders are met fully and on time. Specific duties are assigned in coordination with the farm managers. Additionally he/she will be expected to: Take on the management of specific areas of the farm (eg. overseeing the greenhouse), assigned according to interest and to best assist the farm managers; teach public education workshops; and actively pursue a greater understanding of ecological farming methods.
Training: The Assistant Farm Manager will have the opportunity to learn the additional aspects of the farm operations not covered in a first year apprenticeship position, including off-season planning, farm operations management, and tractor use.
Compensation: $15,000/year, Food from the farm, On-farm housing with reduced rent
