Who We Are

Loam Agronomics is a diversified vegetable farm with 40 acres in production sitting on 288 acres in Richmond, Texas in the suburbs of Houston.  The farm serves a large CSA program, local restaurants and farmer’s markets.  Our expectation is to eventually expand the vegetable program to the entire 288 acres.

Job Description  

As part of the skilled and dynamic team running our diversified vegetable farm, your responsibility will be to work with your hands in the production, harvest and sales of a diversity of sustainably produced vegetable crops. Field Crew will spend the greater part of the day out in the fields. Duties will include (but are not limited to):

Digging, weeding, trellising, fertilizing, irrigating, planting, transplanting, harvesting, washing, packing, loading and unloading trucks, scouting for farm pests and diseases, selling at farmer’s market, driving delivery vehicles, etc.

Field Crew will work a flexible schedule depending on season and weather but will average around 45 hours a week. Most weeks field crew will receive two consecutive days off. Weekend work will regularly be required.

Loam Agronomics Field Crew Job Requirements     

Experience

Prior farm experience is appreciated but not required. At least some outdoor work experience is preferred.

Education

Applicants with education (formal and informal) in agriculture and other select areas will be given special consideration.

Abilities

Must have the ability to be timely to scheduled shifts, ability work as part of a team and take directions, ability to work at a constant pace for up to 10 hours a day, ability to tolerate weather extremes and do physical labor outdoors year-round, ability to lift 60 lbs and carry it 40 feet, ability to stay in a positive mind-set (even under duress).

References

Three professional references, with a strong preference for agricultural references are required. References may be contacted to verify information.

Compensation: Field Crew compensation ranges from $9-12/hr. After 6 months of continuous employment, Field Crew receive 5 days of paid vacation per calendar year on a use it or lose it basis. Vacation may only be used when approved by supervisor. Each employee also receives a weekly share of produce from the farm.
