Granor Farm is seeking a dynamic, out-going individual to operate our organic family farm beginning in 2015. The qualified candidate will have strong farming experience with the capacity to expand operations, revenue and programming.

Located in Three Oaks, Michigan (90 miles from Chicago) on 28 acres, Granor Farm grows organic vegetables, grains and limited fruits. Granor Farm was founded eight years ago and currently includes two modern barns, one with a large two-bedroom seasonal sleeping loft, a green house, two hoop houses and a two-bedroom home. We are certified under the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program and Ohio Ecological Food & Farm Association (USDA organic certification).

The Farm Manager (full-time) directs and participates in all aspects of the farm’s planning, operations (greenhouse, seedlings, planting, harvesting, selling), marketing and programming. Duties and responsibilities for general operations include preparing the annual budget and crop/field plan, seed ordering, irrigation planning and implementation, soil building, maintaining organic certification, recruiting and supervising seasonal staff, interns and volunteers, insect and weed control, operating and maintaining tractors, implements and equipment, and creating a welcoming, healthy and educational environment (which include maintaining the landscaping and cleanliness of the farm house and all buildings and vehicles). The farm’s marketing and educational responsibilities include managing an existing CSA program, developing and disseminating farm-related content, speaking to public groups visiting the farm, promoting farm dinners and other events and working with existing summer camp teachers and counselors.

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and will include enrollment in Blue Cross Blue Shield HSA medical plans. Revenue sharing, annual bonus, housing and vehicle may also be included.

A qualified candidate will be outgoing and energetic with excellent writing and communication skills and possess a working knowledge of agricultural practices and farm management. A solid work ethic with the ability to operate independently, outdoors in all conditions and for long hours (seasonal) with a passion for organic farming, the local food movement, and cooking/eating seasonally will be required. The ability to prepare field and harvest schedules, maintain accurate and organized records and some basic carpentry skills are important qualifications. A commitment to becoming an active member of the local community will be essential.

A Bachelors Degree in environmental sciences, agriculture, entomology, biology or related fields is preferred along with 3-5 years of farming experience, especially with vegetables and grains. A valid driver’s license and the ability to regularly lift 50 lbs. are required. Experience in marketing, education and community outreach and ability to speak some Spanish will be considered valuable.
