USDA Farmers Market Directory submissions extended until June 4

Recognizing that many market managers are busy with the start of the farmers market season, we have extended the deadline for submissions to our Directory until June 4. Farmers market managers can easily and quickly register their market with the Directory at https://www.usdadirectoryupdate.com/ .  Just follow the directions at the top of the page and hit “continue”–the form should then pop up immediately.

If you are not a market manager, please forward this message on to the manager of your market.  If you are a market manager, and have already registered with the Directory, please forward this message to another market managing friend.

The USDA National Farmers Market Directory is affectionately becoming known as the “farmers market census”.  And like a census, the Directory yields critical information about where and when farmers markets are operating, as well as what federal nutrition assistance nutrition programs (like SNAP, WIC, SFMNP) are accepted at which farmers markets.  This is a critical way to map how farmers markets are making fresh, healthy, local food more accessible to more Americans.  Policymakers, press, academics, researchers, stakeholders, consumers and anyone else interested in farmers markets look to the Directory as a snapshot of the industry and its potential in contributing to stronger local food systems, stronger local economies and healthier Americans.

The official results of the USDA 2010 National Farmers Market Directory will be released later this summer, but updates to the Directory should start appearing in about two weeks. To make sure your market is part of the Directory, register it with the USDA

by June 4.
