Holistically Managed Ranch Internships

Holistically Managed Ranch Seeking Interns

General Description: Our 5,000 acre holistically managed ranch is located in south central North Dakota. Our ranch focuses on enhancing soil health to regenerate our landscapes. Crop diversity, cover crops and holistic planned grazing are used to accomplish this. All livestock are moved routinely and are used as a tool to regenerate our soils. We run 350 cow/calf pairs, up to 500 yearlings (of which we grass-finish a portion of them), a flock of hair sheep, broiler chickens, laying hens, and pastured pigs. Most of our products are direct-marketed to consumers through buying clubs and farmers markets.

Desired Skills: We are looking for individuals with a strong desire to learn. Must be self-motivated, hard-working, optimistic, have good communication skills, and be able to work with others. Must also be able to make decisions themselves without constant supervision.

Educational Opportunities: This is a learning internship. Brown’s Ranch has been at the forefront of the current soil health movement. Interns will have the opportunity to learn about land regeneration using holistic practices and will also have the opportunity to interact with individuals from all over the world that come to tour Brown’s Ranch. While here, interns will have the opportunity to learn about soil health, holistic planned grazing, direct marketing products, cover crops, stockmanship, and many other skills.

Internship Details: Interns will assist in all aspects of daily operations on the holistically managed ranch including but not limited to: moving all livestock (cattle, sheep, pigs, chickens) using portable electric fence, planting, harvesting, haying, tending a large garden, direct marketing of produce, and harvesting poultry.
