Organic Farmer Job Illinois: Sandbox Organics is a 2.5 acre (and growing) certified Organic farm located an hour north of Chicago in Grayslake, Illinois. We raise a wide range of high quality vegetables for our Chicago based CSA, farmer’s market, and restaurant accounts, as well as pastured hogs. We are a new farm, entering our third growing season. We are working on developing an environmentally and financially sustainable farm business that supports its workers and community through meaningful work and nutritious food. We are looking for a full-time seasonal worker to help with daily farm tasks for the 2016 season. Position is mid-April through late October.

Components of Job:

Daily field work, including: greenhouse seeding, transplanting, row-covering, weeding, harvesting, maintaining hand-tools, and applying Organically approved inputs.

Washing and packing produce

Tasks pertaining to hog production including feeding and watering, maintaining fencing, and moving them to new pasture

Assisting customers with on-farm pickup for CSA

Cleaning fields at end of season

Working outdoors in all weather conditions

Lifting objects up to 50 lbs

Taking and following verbal instructions from farm manager

Supervising Worker Share members

Desired Skills:

Preferably at least one full season on a vegetable farm or other farm experience

Ability to meet physical demands of the job

Ability to work efficiently while maintaining attention to detail and quality control

Good verbal communication skills and ability to follow directions

Great attitude and work ethic

Ability to work independently

Enthusiastic about Organic agriculture

Compensation:

$9/hour

Fresh produce from the farm

Access to CRAFT field days
