Our Vegetable Farming Basics course on growing vegetables for sale is off to a great start! If you didn’t sign up for the full 18-week course, it’s not too late to jump in. The course is broken down into “skills blocks” of 2-5 sessions each. And our next skills block, focusing on Early Spring Preparations, begins on Thursday, March 2.

Early Spring Preparations skills block (March 2-April 6)

This 4-session skills block covers the following topics:

  • Skinning a greenhouse
  • Laying out raised beds in a high tunnel
  • Greenhouse hygiene and environmental controls
  • Soil blocks and seeding in the greenhouse
  • Irrigation system design & set-up
  • Water management
  • Recordkeeping

Upcoming skills blocks focus on the following topics:

With instruction from experienced Seed Farm staff, you’ll learn how to plan for a successful season, skin a greenhouse, lay out raised beds in a high tunnel, design and set up an irrigation system, test soil and increase its fertility, start seeds in a greenhouse and transplant into the field, manage weeds and pests, harvest spring and summer crops, and much more.

Growing Vegetables for Sale course and skills blocks are highly recommended for urban farmers, community gardeners, and anyone who is considering applying to The Seed Farm’s agricultural incubator. Farming experience is not required. Sessions will be taught in simple English.
