Beginning Farmer CRAFT Field Day in Illinois

Join Tempel Farms Organics in Illinois for a CRAFT Field Day: Soil Fertility, Composting, Cover Crops and Crop Rotation on a Vegetable & Poultry Farm Date: Tuesday, September 4, 2012; Time: 1:00-4:00pm; Potluck lunch at 12:00pm ; Location: Tempel Farms Organics, 17970 W. Millburn Road, Old Mill Creek, IL 60083

Chris and Tanya Cubberly will provide us with a tour of their vegetable and flower fields and talk about their fertility program. We will see the compost yard and they will demonstrate their PTO-powered compost turner. Chris and Tanya will share their experiences with crop rotation, cover crops, and tools they use in the field.

Tempel Farms Organics began in 2008 as a division of Tempel Farms’ horse and conventional row-crop operations. Chris and Tanya raise vegetables, fruit, cut flowers, pasture-raised poultry and eggs, and honey and are in the process of transitioning their 65+ acres to certified organic. Their products are sold in the Chicago area through CSA and various markets.
