Comment: Agriculture Needs Climate Solutions that are Multifaceted

This comment was issued on Thursday, February 25, 2021 in response to the hearing “Climate Change and the U.S. Agriculture and Forestry Sectors” held by the House Agriculture Committee. 

NSAC was pleased to see widespread support for agriculture’s involvement in climate change adaptation and mitigation in the hearing because agriculture needs climate solutions. We urge legislators and USDA leadership to prioritize existing conservation, agricultural research, and rural economic development programs that can be rapidly expanded and improved to give farmers the tools and resources they need to take immediate action.

Contract Farmers Now Eligible For CFAP Aid: Deadline Approaching

Last week, Farmers’ Legal Action Group (FLAG) published a new resource focused on changes in eligibility around the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program. CFAP is a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) program that gives direct payments to farmers affected by the COVID-19 crisis.

FLAG’s most recent guide, a Farmers’ Guide to 2021 CFAP Changes: Contract Farmers and Others, focuses on recent changes to CFAP 1 and CFAP 2 introduced by the 2021 Appropriations Act. While the main deadlines for both versions of CFAP have passed, USDA’s recent changes to CFAP will impact some farmers, especially contract producers. In particular, contract producers of hogs and poultry are now eligible for CFAP 2.  For more details, visit our blog:
