Alabama Sustainable Agriculture Network “Food and Farm Forum”

2012 Alabama Sustainable Agriculture Network “Food and Farm Forum” Thursday- Saturday, October 25-27th, 2012; The Orange Beach Event Center at the Warf - Orange Beach, Alabama Farmers and eaters from across Alabama will meet in Orange Beach this October to talk about innovative approaches to improving sustainable agriculture and the food system in the state. The 2012 Alabama Food and Farm Forum will highlight success stories of Alabama small farmers, ranchers, and fishermen as well as community efforts to improve local food policy.

On Thursday farm tours will be available to learn from local experts about what’s happening in south Alabama.  On Friday, farmers, businesspeople, and leaders from Alabama, the southeast and beyond will share their stories on improving access to local farm products, preserving traditional foods, and addressing environmental and health issues through youth education and alternative farming techniques.  The conference will start on Friday morning with introductory thoughts from Lucy Buffett, of Lulu’s Restaurant, and Lieutenant Governor Kay Ivey. Friday evening’s banquet will feature Alabama Department of Agriculture Commissioner John McMillian.  The conference will conclude on Saturday with more information session addressing sustainable agriculture and the food system.

$85 includes reception on Thursday as well as lunch and dinner on Friday.  All meals will use locally-produced foods where possible and prepared by guest chefs.  Farm tours are $45 per person.  Scholarships are available and as well as reduced student rates.
