Seed to Table Oregon Assistant Farm Manager Job Description – 2019

Seed to Table Oregon’s mission is to increase the health and wellness of the Central Oregon community through providing equal access to nutritious and local foods and through providing farm based health and science education. The organization has an amazing opportunity for a motivated individual who is passionate about farming, education and nutritious foods. We are seeking to hire an assistant farm manager to help run our two acre farm and assist with on-site farm education for the Sisters, Oregon community. The Assistant Farm Manager must be passionate about collaborating, a self-starter, innovative and a proactive problem solver. The first year on with our team you will be learning our systems and carrying out daily operations. There is opportunity for growth in this position over the years. This position is seasonal, running from March 1stNovember 1st.

Position: Assistant Farm Manager,

Hours: Full Time February 15th– November 15th

Reports to: Seed to Table Executive Director

Status: Seasonal, Exempt

Salary: $14-$16/ hr DOE

Job Purpose: To assist that Executive Director in managing the Seed to Table Farm operation and to assist with on-site farming education for Sisters, Oregon community.

Assist in managing all aspects of Seed to table farm plot

Layout, bed preparation, planting, watering/irrigation, harvesting schedule, and produce sales.

Crop planning, harvesting, weed management, soil nutrient management

Farm efficiencies

Serve as educator as needed for classroom and farm field trip program, including teaching students about farming, sustainability, garden science, etc.

Recruit and work with community volunteers.

Maintain irrigation system, garden tools and equipment.

Maintain record keeping of crop plan, transplanting, yields, plant varieties, etc..

Track volunteer and student education hours.

Track produce donations and sales.

Manage community supported agriculture shares

Assist executive director in:

Inspiring the local community around local food

Coordinating and leading work parties, student farm projects, weekly volunteer events for schools, and community volunteer events.

Procuring in-kind donations of supplies and plant starts.

Supervising garden assistants and interns.

Coordinating adult garden education programs.

Planning and implementing events.

Attend staff meetings

Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in an Environmental Studies, Agriculture or Food Systems Degree

Must be a self starter and love to collaborate

2 years of experience working on organic vegetable farm

Experience working with a team and managing others

Able to work independently and as part of a team

Ability to lift 40lbs and work outdoors in variable climatic conditions

Organized and detail oriented
