Beginning Farmer Land Opportunity with SILT in Iowa – 2017

Sustainable Iowa Land Trust – SILT is accepting applications for the next farmer on the beautiful 170 acre, certified organic Luzum farm in the Driftless region of Northeast Iowa.  Near the vibrant, engaged college-town of Decorah and within reach of larger marketplaces, the property includes an energy-efficient 4 BR home and farm buildings.

The selected farmer will have access to 70 acres, and after a short probationary period will have access to a long-term lease and the opportunity to apply rent payments to equity in the house and building site. This is all available for less than $20,000/year with no down payment, with the potential for living there for a lifetime and earning equity in the house and buildings. SILT is also holding an open house at the Luzum farm (2264 200^th St. Calmar, IA) this Sunday, June 25th  at 2 pm for prospective candidates to tour the farm and ask questions. Application Timeline for SILT/Luzum Farm Beginning Farmer Land Opportunity

1.      Prospective candidates submit complete SILT application.	DEADLINE Aug. 14
2.      SILT reviews materials & selects candidates for interviews	Late August
3.      SILT conducts interviews	Late August/Early Sept.
4.      Top candidate selected and notified	Early Sept.
5.      Voluntary disclosure from top candidate, SILT conducts criminal background check.	Early Sept.
6.      Paperwork signed, candidate becomes a SILT farmer!	Mid-September
7.      Farm move-in!	Nov. 1
8.      Other candidates receive feedback	Mid November

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

1. Resume and Cover letter with contact information for three to four references
2. Business plan
3. Essay responses
4. Permission to perform background/credit checks
