Summer 2012 Education Intern Positions at Holly Hill Farm, Cohasset, MA Title: Summer Education Intern, Holly Hill Farm Type: Part-time, Seasonal: 8 week commitment of 20 hours per week.  Internship slots available from April 30 to August 17, 2012. Location: Cohasset, MA Compensation: Possible weekly stipend pending successful grant funding. Holly Hill Farm is a certified organic vegetable, flower, and herb farm located in Cohasset, MA about 25 miles South of Boston.  The Friends of Holly Hill Farm is the non-profit education center based at the farm that uses the fields, animals, woods, and water sources as its outdoor classroom.  The Friends of Holly Hill Farm is looking for enthusiastic summer teaching interns to assist with school field trips, summer programs, curriculum development, and farm and barnyard chores.

The goal of this internship program is to learn organic farming and sustainable agricultural practices by assisting farmers with farm and barnyard chores, participate in Farm Based Education Program (school groups, summer programs, workshops). Internship will culminate in the development and implementation of a new farm-based lesson plan.

The internship requires an 8 week commitment of 20 hours per week.  Internship slots available from April 30 to August 17, 2012.

Responsibilities include assisting in a variety of education and farm activities with ages 3 and up.  Training will be provided and interns will be asked to lead and teach school groups at the farm and lead and teach summer programs for ages 3-16.  Interns will assist with programs and workshops at the farm.  Interns will collaborate with staff to develop new curricula, work with volunteer groups, assist Farm Managers with farm work, and assist with farm animal care.

Applicants must be high school graduates with a responsible and positive attitude.  The position requires on time arrival and a flexible approach to teaching and collaborating under changeable working conditions.  Excellent verbal and written communications skills are a must.  Applicants must be physically capable of strenuous physical labor necessary to do farm and barnyard chores.  Interns must keep a journal of observations, experiences and reflections.  Applicant must have reliable transportation.  Housing is not available although Holly Hill Farm is 2 miles from the Greenbush Commuter Rail Cohasset station.
