2020 Farm Apprenticeships at Glynwood (Cold Spring, NY)

The Glynwood Center for Regional Food and Farming is hiring two Livestock Apprentices and two Vegetable Apprentices for the 2020 season. Find position descriptions below and on our website. 

The Glynwood Center for Regional Food and Farming is a non-profit organization serving food and farming changemakers from New York’s Hudson Valley and beyond. Glynwood advances local food production in the Hudson Valley region, as well as educating a national audience about efforts to regionalize food and agriculture.

Some weekend work will be required.
 
LIVESTOCK APPRENTICE 
 
Glynwood seeks two apprentices to assist in all aspects of production for our multi-species livestock operation. Glynwood pastures cattle, goat, sheep, hogs and poultry. Work includes day-to-day care of the animals as well as monitoring breeding, birthing, caring for sick or injured animals, and on-farm processing of poultry. The livestock apprentice positions are eight months, from March to November. One season of livestock farming experience is required.

Livestock Apprentice compensation includes a private room in on-site shared apprentice housing, a $531 weekly stipend, and $400 in a Healthcare Reimbursement Account.

VEGETABLE APPRENTICE

Glynwood seeks two apprentices to assist in all aspects of production for our 6 acres of vegetables. Work includes greenhouse management, cover cropping, irrigation, tractor field work, fertility management, harvesting, post-harvest handling, staffing CSA distribution and farm store, record keeping, season extension, pest and disease control, weed management, and composting. The vegetable apprentice positions are 8 months, from mid-March to mid-November. One season of experience on a farm is required.
