Through their farm and experiential education programs, they hope to reconnect people with their food and with the earth, inspiring social and ecological responsibility in the Jewish community, greater Baltimore, and beyond. The farm cultivates organically grown vegetables, culinary & medicinal herbs, fruit orchards, vineyards, berry & asparagus patches, and small grains for the Pearlstone Center and their CSA in the greater Baltimore community. The pasture features a flock of 100 chickens laying diverse eggs, and 5 milking goats. Pearlstone Programs welcome over 4,500 people a year for their volunteer opportunities, festival celebrations, educational field-trips, team building, numerous workshops, an intensive summer service-learning program, Chesapeake Watershed Pilgrimage-Alternative Spring Break program, Inter-faith farm school, our annual national conference on agriculture and Judaism, and annual Early Childhood Educators Conference. They offer Jewish and non-sectarian programs. The retreat center as a whole creates an open space for organizations and groups to host day or overnight events, retreats, conferences and more. Currently seeking:

1)   Animal Manager (full-time  paid  salary and benefits). Start date: Jan. 2013 Email josh@pearlstonecenter.org for information.

2)   Farmer-Educator apprentices April-Oct 2013 (full time, stipend, on-site room and board provided) * See our website for detailed description!*

3)   Farmer, animals and green building interns (part-time, unpaid, housing optional if here April-October)* See our website for detailed descriptions!*

Interns:  If you have interests in sustainable design, Produce/perennials, animal care, marketing, communications, art, curriculum writing, education, event planning ,  or more… Tailor your internship experience based on your skills, interests and schedule.   As you demonstrate learning there will be opportunity for leadership. We can work with your schedule to determine number of hours/days of work per week.  Additionally, unpaid interns have a great opportunity to get to know and us to know you if interested in our paid apprenticeship for the future.

Qualifications:

Interest in: nonprofit work, business/marketing, farming, sustainability, community building, agriculture, agricultural education, and/or Judaism or religious studies.

Must be: reliable/punctual. Must work well on a team, have a positive/can-do attitude, and take directions well from our farm/program managers. Must be a “people” person- interested in interacting with and informally leading or teaching volunteers, students who come for programs, and our diverse retreat center staff.  Most internships require: Ability to bend and lift heavy objects, work hard in all weather: rain/shine, heat/cold, commute to Reisterstown, MD,  Email resume and cover letter to laura@pearlstonecenter.org
