Farm Crew positions in Princeton, Minnesota

Uproot Farm is a diversified, production-oriented, certified organic vegetable farm about an hour north of the Twin Cities. 2017 will be our seventh season during which we’ll offer 80 Summer CSA shares as well as Farmers Market Shares. We’ll also be preparing to shrink the farm so we’ll be trialing a more intensive, small-scale growing system. We’ll grow a total of six acres of vegetables.

In addition to the CSA, we grow plant starts for sale, we attend two farmers markets in Minneapolis for their 24 week season, and we sell to two food co-ops and a handful of restaurants in Minneapolis.
The farm is located 15 minutes from Cambridge, MN, a town of 8,000 with a food co-op and many other amenities.

The 2017 crew will be myself and two farm crew members.

Full-Season Farm Crew Position  —  Begins May 1st and ends October 31^st. Start and end dates may be flexible.

Summer Farm Crew Position — Begins June 1st and ends August 31st. Start and end dates may be flexible.

As a crew member, you will be immersed in all daily jobs on the farm including, but not limited to:
– tractor work
– greenhouse work/management
– irrigation management and implementation
– planting
– weed management (with both tractors and hoes)
– harvesting, washing and packing of over 40 types of vegetables
– vegetable delivery, and possibly farmer’s market sales.

Housing

Housing and kitchen are provided in the renovated barn. There is a composting toilet just outside the barn. Laundry and shower facilities are available in the farm house. Vegetables from the farm are available once we start harvesting.

Hours

We work five days a week–Monday through Friday with a 45 minute unpaid lunch. Start time will vary throughout the season and is dependent on the weather and the tasks at hand, but we will usually work 7am-4pm. There may also be farmers market responsibilities on the weekends.

Compensation

Hourly wage of $7.75/hr plus free housing, vegetables, and eggs.

Skills Desired

We’re looking for someone who is self-motivated, detail oriented, and can work quickly while maintaining our quality standards. Previous farm work not required, but a good work ethic and attitude are. Farm work is hard, fast-paced, and often exhausting- but also rewarding. Preferably you’ve done some type of manual labor and/or worked outside previous to arriving.
Applicants must have a vehicle, be in good physical shape, be able to lift 40 pounds repeatedly, enjoy working outside in all types of weather, and be eager to learn!

There are opportunities to return for a second season in a role with greater responsibility.
