Farm Internships in Rhinelander Wisconsin

Farm internship in Wisconsin

EverGood Farm in Rhinelander Wisconsin is offering 2 farm internships for the 2016 season.  They are a 5 acre diversified vegetable farm growing vegetables for their 100 member CSA, three weekly farmers markets, and wholesale.  The farm is run entirely by owners Jenny and Brendan Tuckey, whom the interns would work closely with and be involved in all aspects of the farm.  They have a 4 year old son, and are expecting our second child in December.  For more information on their farm please see their website www.EverGoodFarm.com.

Preferred Start Date:  A commitment of mid May to mid October is required, however an earlier start date is almost always welcome.  A vehicle is preferred since we live 20 minutes from any major town.

Number of Positions: 2-a couple is preferred.

Hours: Generally 40-50 hours/week.  This will include working at the Saturday Farmers Market and any necessary jobs that need to be completed on Saturdays.  Interns typically receive  1 /1/2 to 2 days off/week.

Wage: This is a stipend position, which includes housing in a newly built garage apartment (with full kitchen, and bathroom), vegetables, and some meat.

Skills Desired: 1 year working on a similar farm is preferred but not essential.  The intern must show a strong interest and enthusiasm for local, sustainable agriculture, a strong work ethic, ability to do physically demanding work, the ability to work well alone or with others, and strong customer service skills.  Interns will be involved in all aspects of the farm including markets, the CSA program, harvesting, washing, seeding, transplanting, and record keeping.  Most of the education will take place throughout daily tasks working alongside Jenny and Brendan.  Interns are also encouraged to explore their own farm interests and Jenny and Brendan are happy to assist with that.  The interns can also gain experience raising small scale broiler chickens, and pigs, which we raise for our own consumption (we are still learning here too).

The rhythm of the farm varies with the seasons.  They try to keep to an 8-9 hour day most days, but there are often more tasks to complete than time available.  This is not a job for someone who is uncomfortable around hard work. They work hard, but we have fun.  The Northwoods of Wisconsin is a beautiful place to live, with a huge network of lakes, and trails for interns to enjoy on their time off.

Jenny and Brendan enjoy opening up their home and work life to interns who want to learn about sustainable agriculture and contribute to their community.  Life is pretty hectic in the summer months, but they love having interns for their fresh perspective, helping hands, and fun that apprentices bring.

To apply please email a resume and letter of interest to office@evergoodfarm.com  We will respond with a short questionnaire for you to fill out.  Any questions about the position can be sent to the above email or give us a call at 715-272-1041.  Thanks!
