2015 Farm Manager Apprentice Job in Oakland, California We’re looking for farmers to come farm with us!

Farmly installs and maintains farms for individuals and organizations with unused land. We primarily grow vegetables, fruit, herbs, and flowers. We are hiring a Farm Manager Apprentice to run our Oakland farms for the rest of the 2015 growing season.

We are looking for someone passionate about farming and interested in managing a farm. You will have responsibilities for Oakland farm management and will get a well rounded experience. You will experience how the farm works from seed to distribution by participating in transplanting, cultivation, pest control, harvesting, farmers markets, Farm Share distribution and more. In addition to hands-on work on the farms, you will learn about the business of farming and innovative use of technology to improve farm management.

Qualifications:

Prior experience working on a vegetable farm, at least 2 months and preferably a season, with working knowledge of organic gardening and farming methods
A strong interest in working and learning on a production farm
Ability to work in all weather conditions and be physically able to complete a season of farm work
A valid driver’s license with clean driving record
Good communication skills
Prior management experience or other experience leading teams preferred
Demonstrated ability to both follow and give directions, seek assistance and communicate clearly
Ability to work well with others while completing the tasks given
Ability to work with community partners and engage in educational programming and community outreach when appropriate
Positive attitude and strong work ethic
Love of vegetables!
