GFJI is aimed at dismantling racism and empowering low-income and communities of color through sustainable and local agriculture. This comprehensive network views dismantling racism as a core principal which brings together social change agents from diverse sectors working to bring about new, healthy and sustainable food systems and supporting and building multicultural leadership in impoverished communities throughout the world. The vision for this initiative is to establish a powerful network of individuals, organizations and community based entities all working toward a food secure and just world. Sponsored By https://www.growingpower.org/, a national nonprofit organization and land trust supporting people from diverse backgrounds, and the environments in which they live, by helping to provide equal access to healthy, high-quality, safe and affordable food for people in all communities.  Growing Power implements this mission by providing hands-on training, on-the-ground demonstration, outreach and technical assistance through the development of Community Food Systems that help people grow, process, market and distribute food in a sustainable manner. General Information: Scholarships are designated primarily for limited income people of color, although exceptions may be made based on the information requested in the application forms. We will further evaluate based on commitment to food and social justice. This scholarship is for the Gathering proper, (September 9-September 11, 2011). It does not include pre-conference trainings or travel. In addition, you may apply for up to two night’s lodging at the 4-6 person dorm rate ($35 per night).
