Horton Road Organics is hiring an Assistant Farm Manager for the 2018 Season

Horton Road Organics, located in the Oregon coast range, integrates education, sustainable food production and community events throughout our main season, April through October.  The farm organically grows over 30 varieties of crops that supply a small CSA, three farmers markets, several restaurants and a number of local natural food stores.  Each season, our farm welcomes a crew that includes farming apprentices and managers.

For the 2018 farming season, Horton Road Organics is seeking an Assistant Farm Manager.  This person will work closely with the Farm Manager to provide support for all areas of the farm operation. We are looking for someone who is an efficient, skilled harvester and a competent teacher, communicator and leader.

JOB TITLE: Assistant Farm Manager

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Day-to-day farm work
  2. Sow/plant, harvest, cultivate
  3. Wash and pack produce
  4. Instruct, direct and supervise apprentices; Lead group work tasks
  5. Community Living
  6. Coordinate group meetings
  7. Facilitate positive group dynamics and conflict resolution
  8. Farmers Markets
  9. Manage weekly markets as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two seasons of row crop farming experience
  • Capacity to meet minimum harvest rates
  • Teaching skills; Communication & conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Valid Driver’s License (drive “box truck” type vehicles and/or manual transmission)

COMPENSATION:

  • Hourly rate based on experience, plus bonuses
  • Room and board; Private yurt and shared kitchen
  • Additional pay for Saturday farmers markets

TIME COMMITMENT:

  • April 1 – October 31 (possible reduced hours in April and October)
  • 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, plus some Saturday markets
