Internship: Farming with Grow Youngstown, Ohio

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY Organization: Grow Youngstown Time Period: June through August (or mid May through mid August) Location: Youngstown Ohio Stipend: $2000.00 Work Week: 40 hours (requires some evenings and weekends) Grow Youngstown, a non profit organization dedicated to promoting the growth of food, forage, forest and fuel in Youngstown and neighboring communities, is seeking a self-motivated individual with education or at least 1 year of experience in horticultural, gardening or vegetable farming. The intern will manage perennial beds, succession planting of common crops, general garden maintenance, as well as provide mentorship to gardeners, and coordinate garden events such as trellis building, social occasions, and possibly irrigation installation. The intern will serve as the project and event organizer for all activities at Fairgreen Neighborhood Garden.   There will be some responsibilities to other community outreach projects and events as designated by Grow Youngstown.  Grow Youngstown will make office space and internet access available at our office, also within walking distance of the garden.

The Fairgreen Neighborhood Garden is on the North Side of Youngstown, Ohio located at 230 Fairgreen Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio 44504.  The garden has tools, water catchment, 5 perennial beds, a market garden (as of this Spring) and 15 garden plots plus other planted areas.   FNG is home to a bee hive, many red wigglers and lots of compost !  Search Fairgreen Neighborhood Garden on facebook to see pics from last year.

ACCOMODATIONS
Grow Youngstown will help you find suitable accommodations within walking distance from the Fairgreen Neighborhood Garden and can guarantee rent including utilities will be no more than $325.00 per month, for solo occupancy.   We are negotiating rental of an apartment at a more favorable rate and will have more information at the time of interviews.  Housing will be within a 30 minute walk of downtown Youngstown and a 10 minute walk of the university.
