Job: Apprenticeship at Crimson and Clover Farm, MA

Job: Assistant Grower/ Apprentice at Crimson and Clover Farm, Massachusetts, 2014

Crimson & Clover Farm is a diverse mixed vegetable farm based at the Northampton Community Farm in Florence, MA.  2014 will be their fourth year in operation and they will produce vegetables on about 16 acres for 375 CSA members and two weekly farmers markets.  In addition to these 16 acres they will also be managing and improving an additional 70 acres that they are leasing.  Their goal is to continue creating a bountiful, fun, and creative community based farm. At Crimson & Clover Farm they offer a collaborative work environment that welcomes questions and dialogue as they develop a productive farm and a strong business.  They are teachers at heart and we enjoy passing on what knowledge they have to their employees and helping them develop their skills for potentially managing their own farm in the future. The Assistant Grower/ Apprentice positions are designed for someone who has at least one season of farming experience and is excited to continue to develop skills in fieldwork, tractor use, and field and crew management.  The Assistant Growers will work with the rest of the farm crew (under the coordination of the farm managers) in all aspects relating to vegetable production and land management.  These tasks will include but are not limited to: planting, weeding, irrigation, harvest, wash-up, the distribution of vegetables, tractor work, and cultivation.  The assistant growers are also expected to be leaders in the field.  This means coordinating work among our other field crew, communicating clearly with the other assistant growers and farm managers, and keeping farm work happening at an efficient pace.

Crimson & Clover Farm is looking for someone who is positive, a hard worker, who easily takes on responsibilities, and can work productively both in groups and individually.  The hours will vary by season, but can be long (between 40 and 55 hr/wk) and you will be expected to work in all sorts of weather conditions (spring rain and fall frosts).  During the summer and fall months assistant growers work 5 ½ days a week.

The position runs from March 24th through November 1st 2014.  The compensation includes $1400/month and as many vegetables as you like.  Unfortunately, we are unable to provide housing at this time.  In addition to the work and learning at the farm, the Assistant Growers will take part in the CRAFT program where apprentices from different farms in the area attend farm tours and workshops at other participating farms.

If you are interested please send them a resume, a letter describing why you would like to work at Crimson & Clover Farm, and 2 references. They will arrange interviews with qualified applicants.  These positions will be open until filled.
