Morel mushroom hunting time is here again!

Well it’s that time again in Michigan. For me this is officially the start of spring. The weather has been cool, but it’s rained a lot, so I’m hoping for a good morel hunting trip starting tomorrow. For those of you who have been following the site for a while, it’s probably hard to imagine that I could do better than last year, and I’m a little bit skeptical myself. But this is the only time I have to get away, and my mycology buddy Kurt Lamour, a plant pathology professor at the University of Tennessee with whom I do my annual foray will be arriving at noon on Tuesday from Tennessee to pick me up and head north.

This means a couple of things in terms of the site. First, the bad news. You may not be getting all of the updates I try to keep on top of for a day or so. But now the good news. I have a wordpress application on my phone and will try to keep you all updated on the hunt, hopefully including pictures of the morel mushrooms we find. Below is a picture from last year of a beautiful specimen.

Wish me luck! – TaylorBlack Morel Mushrooms

  1. Taylor, I think you will do well. Reports are that this is an excellent year for morels.

    • Jim, we did okay. It was definitely early. Check out the post on the smallest morel ever for a laugh. It’s on the blog.
