New Website for Trading, Buying, and Selling Local Produce

A new website has caught my eye. It’s called Veggie Trader, and was conceived as a way to arrange vegetable swapping between individuals within local communities.

Although the target audience seems to have originally been backyard gardeners, it may also be a useful resource for CSA farms or farmers market vendors to develop cooperative marketing arrangements that allow those who might have an excess of one product, to swap with someone who has something else.

Here in Michigan I know several growers who swap fruit for veggies for their farmstands and CSA’s, and shiitake growers who are often happy to trade for salad mix.

So far they claim to have signed up over 6000 members. So it might be worth checking out if you think it’s something that might work for you. The web address is: https://www.veggietrader.com/.

The creators also have a very nice blog called Sprouting Off about taking homegrown produce from the yard to the table which offers lots of good ideas about cooking, homesteading, and building community through food.
