2018 Full Time, Year-Round Assistant Farm Manager at Oak Spring Farm, Freeland, MD

Oak Spring Farm is a small, intensive Certified Organic farm in Northern Baltimore County, MD with a diversified vegetable production and pastured eggs. We grow over 40 different crops and market our goods through a 40+ member CSA, Baltimore restaurants and local markets. Oak Spring Farm is seeking a full-time farm assistant manager for the 2018 growing season. This position can start now, Fall 2017, for the right candidate. Duties + Responsibilities

  • Crew and volunteer management
  • CSA management with support of farm owner: overseeing packing and delivery of csa shares
  • Managing harvests, seeding calendar, irrigation needs for crops, high tunnel monitoring and management, tool and equipment maintenance
  • Manage one of Oak Spring Farm’s off-site farmers’ markets weekly

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of organic vegetable production experience with diversified crops
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently
  • Desire to manage people and communicate effectively
  • Physical stamina and strength to easily lift and carry 50lbs
  • A desire for efficiency, detail, and a sense of urgency
  • Willingness to take initiative and take on responsibility

We seek an assistant manager with a serious interest in organic farming, strong communication skills, who can stay upbeat in stressful situations, cultivate morale in a crew, and shows up daily with commitment and enthusiasm. A typical summer work week will be 6 days/week up to 50 hours. Winter is closer to 30 hours so the balance equals 40/hours per week year round.

Compensation

Annual salary: $24,000 (paid monthly) Paid vacation negotiable

Organic produce and eggs from the farm

Optional housing available: valued at $400/mo that can be withheld from salary
