In partnership with University of Guelph and Royal Botanical Gardens

The University of Guelph, in partnership with the Royal Botanical Gardens, will be offering two new online certificate programs beginning in September 2010. Certificates in Sustainable Urban Horticulture and Sustainable Urban Agriculture reach out to individuals interested in growing healthy plant material using environmentally sound/sustainable growing practices. All courses are delivered online – learners simply need access to a computer and the internet. Courses will be offered in 12 week semesters with 3 semesters provided each calendar year. These exciting certificate programs are designed to provide practical and applied course content for the busy adult learner.

Individuals who are interested in agricultural sustainability in the urban environment, including professionals working in urban agricultural programs, will benefit from Sustainable Urban Agriculture. Courses address the broad topics and issues of sustainable urban agriculture that also provide positive impact on individuals and their communities.

Others may wish to focus on the environmental, social and economic implications of horticulture in our cities. Courses discuss the land management practices and choices that will maintain plants intended for use in the urban landscape.
