Organic Farm Job in Illinois at Sandbox Organics Farm – 2017

Sandbox Organics is a 3 acre (and growing) certified Organic farm located an hour north of Chicago in Grayslake, Illinois.  We grow a wide range of high quality vegetables for our Chicago-based CSA, farmer’s market, and restaurants, as well as raise pastured hogs.  We are a young farm, entering our third growing season.  We are working on developing an environmentally and financially sustainable farm business that supports its workers and community through meaningful work and nutritious food.  We are looking for two full-time seasonal workers to help with daily farm tasks for the 2017 season.   Positions start early April through the end of October.

Components of Organic Farm Job in Illinois:

• Daily field work, including: greenhouse seeding, transplanting, row-covering, weeding, harvesting, maintaining hand-tools, and applying Organically approved inputs.
• Washing and packing produce
• Tasks pertaining to hog production including feeding and watering, maintaining fencing, and moving them to new pasture
• Assisting customers with on-farm pickup for CSA
• Cleaning fields at end of season
• Working outdoors in all weather conditions
• Lifting objects up to 50 lbs
• Taking and following verbal instructions from farm manager
• Supervising Worker Share members
• Helping establish perennials and building seedling greenhouse at new property we’re transitioning on to in 2018

Desired Skills:

• Preferably at least one full season on a vegetable farm or other farm experience
• Ability to meet physical demands of the job
• Ability to work efficiently while maintaining attention to detail and quality control
• Good verbal communication skills and ability to follow directions
• Great attitude and work ethic
• Ability to work independently
• Enthusiastic about Organic agriculture

Compensation:
