Public Meeting to Address Residues of Veterinary Drugs in Foods

USDA Holds Public Meeting to Address Agenda Items for the 19th Session of the Codex Committee on Residues of Veterinary Drugs in Foods

WASHINGTON, Aug. 6, 2010 - The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Office of Food Safety and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Veterinary Medicine are sponsoring a public meeting to provide information and receive public comments on agenda items and draft U.S. positions that will be discussed at the 19th Session of the Codex Committee on Residues of Veterinary Drugs in Foods (CCRVDF), to be held in Burlington, Vt., from Aug. 30 to Sept. 3, 2010. The public meeting will be held on Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., in Room 107-A, USDA, Jamie L. Whitten Building, 1400 Independence Ave. S.W., Washington, D.C. Codex was established in 1963 by two United Nations organizations, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO). Through adoption of food standards, codes of practice and other guidelines developed by its committees, and by promoting their adoption and implementation by governments, Codex seeks to protect the health of consumers and ensure fair practices in the food trade.
