Farms of the Future – Short Films and Article from Local Futures

Here are some new resources put together by the good folks at Local Futures — including a short film collection and an article entitled The Farms of the Future — which share the stories of a new generation of farmers who are focused on human and planetary well being. We hope you find these inspiring and worth sharing with your friends!

As I’m sure you agree, changing the food system is one of the most powerful strategies we have for transforming our economies and society for the better. But with the average age of farmers worldwide hovering around 60 years old, the question is: who will grow the food of the future and what will their farms look like?

The folks at Local Futures have curated this collection of short films about the farms of the future from across the web that explore the many facets of this question, and offer an inspiring vision of the farms of the future. The Local Futures folks have also written an article to accompany the films that offers an in-depth exploration of the ways the food system intersects with other timely issues like climate change, diversity in its myriad forms, economic inequality, and the epidemic of loneliness.

On the Local Futures website, they offer some recommendations for how you might use the Farms of the Future films to set up screening and discussion groups within local communities.

Local Futures works to renew ecological, social and spiritual well-being by promoting a systemic shift towards economic localization. A pioneer of the new economy movement, Local Futures has been raising awareness for four decades about the need to shift direction – away from dependence on global monopolies, and towards decentralized, regional economies.
