Urgent Risk and Crop Management Information – Supplemental Revenue Assistance for Crop Disaster

Urgent Risk and Crop Management Information!

The SUpplemental REvenue Assistance program (SURE) in the 2008 farm bill provides benefits for total farm crop revenue losses due to natural disasters.  SURE replaces the Ad Hoc Crop Disaster Programs.  Producers with qualifying losses are eligible to receive 60% of the difference between the SURE disaster program guarantee and the actual farm crop revenue.  In order for a producer to be eligible for the SURE program, all crops grown that could earn more than 5% of the expected total farm crop revenue must be covered by federal crop insurance or FSA’s Non-insurable Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP). The deadline for insuring all perennial forage crops and wheat is September 30, 2009 and November 20, 2009 for perennial fruit crops. Information on SURE is available from FSA and MSU Extension offices and online at https://www.msu.edu/~betz/.

Information on managing and marketing immature or wet corn is available online at https://www.ipm.msu.edu/catfield/harvestAlert/harvest.htm.  Producers can also request the information by calling their MSU County Extension office or 888-678-3464 (1-888-MSUE-4MI)
