Farming Job in Hawaii – 2017

Farmer/Market Gardener

The Hawai’i Institute of Pacific Agriculture farm is located along the beautiful, historic coast of North Kohala, on the Big Island of Hawai’i. Our main campus, Halawa Farm, is a 7-acre living and learning environment where we cultivate a diverse collection of native Hawai’ian and Polynesian plants, tropical fruit orchards and perennial vegetable crops, in addition to raising small scale poultry and livestock. The farm is the base of operations for our residential farmer training programs and educational workshops, and provides a steady supply of food and medicine to those on the land as well as our local farmers market.

Farming Job in Hawaii Description:

We are seeking an individual or couple to support our market farm operations. The ideal candidate(s) will have experience in high production vegetable farming and be comfortable working in a dynamic outdoor environment.

Daily responsibilities will vary depending on the needs of the farm, and may include bed prep, seeding, planting, watering, harvesting, processing/packing, nursery work, land maintenance, as well as providing support for our local farmers markets.

We have many exciting projects on the horizon for 2017, and we are looking for people who can make a commitment of 1 year or longer, to help us bring these projects to fruition. The market farmer position will play a key role in developing our market garden, and contributing to the daily flow and productivity of the farm. We are looking for someone who is passionate about creating change, and will be a positive and responsible addition to our existing team.
