Climate Change Farm Internship at Midnight’s Farm on Lopez Island in Washington State – 2021

THIS OPPORTUNITY HAS BEEN FILLED FOR 2021. PLEASE CHECK BACK AGAIN NEXT YEAR

This three month climate change farm internship program brings together a global online climate learning course/network with rooted, place-based farm experience for those wanting a deeper sense of purpose, role and responsibility in mitigating the climate crisis.

Live, work, learn, and connect on Midnight’s Farm while taking a deep dive into the landscape of climate change through the 12-week course “Climate Change: Learning for Action” through Terra.do.  Learn with a worldwide climate network while getting your hands dirty with experiential, in-the-field farm work.

Midnight’s Farm is a small diversified farm on Lopez Island in northwest Washington. We strive to model stewardship and production that tends the soil and the climate. We run a Department of Ecology approved compost facility with an aerated static pile system.  People bring yard waste and wood waste to the farm which we grind in our tub grinder and make into compost.  Our herd of Murray Grey cattle are rotationally grazed in the spring, summer and fall and overwintered off pasture.  We raise heritage pigs.  There is a 100 plus year old barn, a 9KW Photovoltaic array, multiple outhouses, two ponds, wetlands, pasture, blueberries, a quarter acre no-till market garden and a heritage orchard with apples, pears and plums.

While we do work hard, we like to relax and eat good food. We have a wood-fired sauna and swimming pond.  We are enrolled in the Washington State L&I Small Farm Internship Program. This provides coverage for on the job injuries.

Intern work commitment is 34 hours a week.  Housing, food, $100/week stipend and enrollment in the Terra.do course ($1,500 value) is included in the internship.  We are enrolled in the Washington State L&I Small Farm Internship Program. This provides coverage for on the job injuries.
