Field Work Podcast on COVID-19 and Farms

The Field Work podcast has published an special episode this week on the topic of COVID-19 and Farms. In this episode, co-host Mitchell Hora connects with Chip Flory, host of AgriTalk Radio, for a check-in on COVID-19 and to talk broadly about the issues the ag industry is up against due to the pandemic.

In addition to Field Work’s primary lens of sustainable ag practices, Mitchell and Chip talk through COVID-19’s effects on the ag industry, which was already facing numerous challenges and now – like many other areas – has felt a hit from the pandemic.

Chip brings in his expertise to address questions including which parts of ag have been hit hardest; how the industry must adjust to operate in this challenging time; and how farmers can begin a transition to normalcy – if possible – once restrictions start to lift.

Hosted by two commercial row-crop farmers, Field Work is a podcast that provides space for frank, realistic discussions about the benefits and challenges of sustainable agriculture. Hosts Zach Johnson and Mitchell Hora explore the successes and challenges farmers experience as they adopt new practices, without greenwashing over the difficulties.

Zach Johnson is a fifth-generation family farmer from Minnesota who grows 2,500 acres of corn and soybeans with his dad. He also has a formidable online presence through his MN Millennial Farmer YouTube channel, which touts more than 200,000 subscribers.

Mitchell Hora is a farmer and young entrepreneur from Washington, Iowa. His family has farmed in the area for over 100 years and has a strong focus on conservation. When Mitchell is not working with his father on their row crop farm, he runs a consulting company, Continuum Ag, and hosts a podcast focused on soil health.
