Explore Farming Online Workshop and Online Crop Production Workshop Series from New Entry Sustainable Farming Project
 
Explore Farming Online Workshop: Are you interested in exploring what it means to be a farmer?  Come learn about farming and food systems with New Entry Sustainable Farming Project in their FREE two-hour long introductory workshop. We have one upcoming workshop date left this spring:

Sunday, May 3rd, 2020 in Beverly, MA via Webex from 10:00 am-12:00 pm Eastern Time (remote)  Registration and more info here

This is a free two hour workshop designed to help you identify what actions you will need to take towards a career in farming. This workshop is offered several times a year, and until the Corona Virus situation is less severe, we will host this workshop online. Before the workshop people who register (below) will get an email with a link to the online meeting.

  • learn about agriculture in Massachusetts and New England
  • learn about the variety of roles in the food system and opportunities to get involved
  • hear the perspective from a local farmer about getting started in agriculture
  • learn about New Entry Sustainable Farming Project’s courses and services
  • identify resources you have and resources you’ll need for your farm business
  • identify next steps to get started

Crop Production Workshop Series:

Are you interested in starting your own farm business but need to learn technical skills to get started?  New Entry is offering a new Crop Production Workshop series through Tufts University College where individuals will learn to:

  • ​Identify sustainable agriculture practices and how to prepare crops for market and comply with food safety regulations
  • Create a crop plan and manage soil nutrients
  • Manage a greenhouse and setup a drip irrigation system
  • Manage weeds and use cover crops, and identify pests and pest management strategies
  • Buy and maintain farm equipment and machinery
  • And so much more!

The workshop series will consist of three 5-week long sessions.  Each session will meet either virtually or on-farm (dependent on Covid-19 restrictions).  Limited seats are available, so for more information and registration, view here.
