Farming Teach-Out! In Yakima Valley, WA

Farming Teach-Out! Presented by the Community Alliance for Global Justice, and hosted by RicOrganics. FRIDAY JULY 15-SATURDAY JULY 16, 2011 – Yakima Valley, WA The Teach-Out will be hosted by CAGJ member and farmer Jerry Beardsley who recently organized a Growers Cooperative, RicOrganics. Read more about RicOrganics HERE & on their CSA's Facebook page HERE. The Teach Out will connect people with farmers and community organizers, allow them to experience a small piece of life on a working farm, and discuss things like water issues in Eastern WA, and issues facing immigrant farm-workers. Participants will be helping out with harvest for markets on Friday evening and Saturday morning. The group will be leave Friday afternoon from Seattle and return Saturday evening. There will also be an option to join only on Saturday.

CAGJ’s Food Justice Project invites its members and others to learn about and build connections with key players in the local food region through monthly visits to farms, community kitchens, and community gardens! The site visits will include hands-on work that is needed by or is appropriate to the sites, opportunities to debrief and reflect at the end of the site visit, and calls to action! Each visit will allow for carpool options and many will also feature a bike route guided by a CAGJ member. Through these visits, CAGJ hopes to facilitate a place for the voices of our local food producers to be heard and their knowledge and skills to be recognized and celebrated.

**Please note, space is limited, so RSVP’s are required. Please RSVP ASAP! Please include your name and contact information as well as the information of any guests that you will be bringing, and whether you are willing to drive in the car-pool.

To sign up email Erica at fjp@seattleglobaljustice.org. CAGJ will send you directions and details upon receiving your RSVP, as well as information about what to wear and bring. All activities will be appropriate for children and disability accommodations can be worked out if needed.
