Essex County Greenbelt is hosting a fantastic finding farmland workshop led by the National Young Farmers Coalition in Topsfield, MA. The Workshop is FREE and dinner is included! This free event is intended for those with some farming experience who are looking for affordable and secure farmland to purchase.

Understanding the costs associated with acquiring farmland
Creating a strategy for finding affordable tenure
Knowing your financing options

Speaker: Michael Parker
Land Access Program Associate, National Young Farmers Coalition

Mike helps beginning farmers understand their financial decisions related to accessing land, through Young Farmers’ Finding Farmland Calculator as well as in-person and online education projects. He has varied professional experience in farm direct-marketing, including as a farmworker, a food hub marketing associate, a farmers market manager, a caterer, and a writer. Mike holds a degree in accounting from Georgetown University.

They National Young Farmers Coalition (NYFC) is a national advocacy network of young farmers fighting for the future of agriculture. They change policy, build networks, and provide business services to ensure all young farmers have the chance to succeed. NYFC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

As Essex County’s Land Trust, Greenbelt works with landowners and the thirty-four cities and towns of Essex County to conserve open space, farmland, wildlife habitat and scenic landscapes. Our work helps protect native plants, animals and natural corridors, ensure a healthy food supply, maintain clean water, and create free and accessible places for outdoor recreation and the enjoyment of nature.
