Grants for Farmer Vets and FOC: Grant Funding Available to Support Farmers of Color and Military Veterans

Last week, USDA announced the availability of $15 million to support organizations working with underserved farming communities. Similar to years past, this funding announcement is significantly delayed – being released less than a few months from the end of the fiscal year when all grant funding must be obligated by USDA. NSAC and our partners were also concerned to learn that $2 million of this funding has been redirected to fund a separate initiative, rather than support the longstanding 2501 program as Congress intended. Latest Round of Farm to School Grants Tops $12 Million As Pandemic Uncertainty Persists

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced $12.1 million in Farm to School Grants (“F2S”) to 159 grantees in 48 states, Guam and Washington D.C.—the largest round of awards since the grant program was authorized. 

While the applications for this round of funding were due long before the pandemic, this infusion of resources will help to rebuild lost markets for farmers and ranchers who have been struggling financially since the beginning of the pandemic.
