Growing Specialty Crops in Your Low & High Tunnels Workshop from PASA

Wednesday, August 18 • 3–5:30 pm • Two Gander Farm • Downingtown, PA [Chester County]

Join farmers Deirdre and Trey Flemming of Two Gander Farm for a tour of their organic farm, which includes 6,000 square feet of growing space under low and high tunnels used year-round. In the Growing Specialty Crops in Low and Hugh Tunnels Workshop they’ll discuss the pros and cons of their tunnels, as well as how they strategically utilize the tunnels for different purposes throughout the season. You’ll also learn how Deirdre and Trey use their tunnels to grow specialty crops like ginger and turmeric that would otherwise struggle to grow in a Pennsylvania climate.

Now it its 12th season of operation, Two Gander Farm is home to 10 acres of organic vegetables, herbs, fruits, flowers, and bees. Located in Downingtown, Pennsylvania, the farm operates within a beautiful 260-acre preserve owned by the Brandywine Conservancy.

Capacity for this event is limited to 25 registrants. Only 10 spots left!

About the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture (PASA)

In existence since 1992, PASA is a diverse network of growers, businesses and consumers that facilitates and enables viable farming systems which provide healthy food as locally as possible through innovative programs of education, marketing and advocacy in service to its members and the general public.

As the largest statewide, member-based sustainable farming organization in the United States, we seek to improve the economic viability, environmental soundness and social responsibility of food and farming systems in Pennsylvania and across the country. We place great value on efforts to build bridges between broadly diverse participants in the agricultural industry, from “farm to fork.”

PASA grew out of the need for an educational and support system for farmers – both experienced and beginning – interested in non-traditional agricultural practices, such as organic, biodynamic and grass-based farming, as well as the desire to create local markets for sustainably produced food.

PASA’s mission is the underlying theme of all of our programs – promoting profitable farms that produce healthy food for all people while respecting the natural environment – as our work is rooted in education and support for farmers, and outreach to the general public.
