Internships at Heart 2 Heart Farms in Washington – 2018

Heart 2 Heart Farms is a small, forested, 10 acre permaculture farm nestled in the fertile hills of the Willamette Valley. Between the quaint towns of Newberg and Sherwood, this oasis is in the middle of wine country, just 30 minutes south of Portland, and an easy drive to year-round surfing, skiing, fishing, and the best hiking Oregon has to offer. Heart 2 Heart Farms is a teaching facility, hosting a myriad of community outreach, up-cycling, homesteading, and prepping workshops, so be prepared for early mornings, large crowds, and long hours. We are almost completely self-sufficient, producing large varieties of heirloom fruits and vegetables, breeding, butchering, and selling heritage chickens, turkeys, rabbits, pigs, goats, sheep, cattle, yak, and alpaca. We tan hides, carve bone, save seed, and occasionally blow glass, throw pottery, create alternative/green energy, dig root cellars, and we build creatively and constantly.

We are excited to offer two 2018 Growing Season Internships at Heart 2 Heart Farms:

Are you looking for a hands on experience studying sustainable food systems? Maybe you want to get off-grid and become completely self sufficient. An internship at our permaculture based farm fits all sorts of backgrounds, from sociology and economics majors to botany and agronomics. Whether this is your first farm experience, or you WWOOFed your way across the nation last summer, interning with us will test your grit and stamina, fill your toolbelt with industry best practices, and give you the depth and diversity of skills you’ll need to build a successful future for yourself and your community. Live off site with the option to rent on-site housing. College credit available. Participate in daily farm chores and projects. Select an area of focus for a self-directed project – animal husbandry, gardening, natural building, marketing, journalism, videography, business, environmental science, sociology, engineering and construction, plus all trades.

Intern II – Mastering Regenerative Agriculture – An Advanced-level farm management educational exchange designed for the student who has a solid foundation of on-farm experience. This Heart 2 Heart Farms Internship is a fast-paced onboarding program that will teach and test leadership in a small-scale community-based agriculture setting. During your time as an intern you’ll build farm management skills and qualities while working independently, guided by the Heart 2 Heart Farms team, with the goal of developing autonomy in your chosen area of expertise. This elevated responsibility requires a strong foundation in farm life, so we ask that applicants have 2 years of farm experience with references available upon request. Our interns are valued members of our community and are treated as such, with on site group housing and farm fresh food, weekly farm family dinners, and access to the resources they need to knock an independent project out of the park. Live on site, group housing provided. Lead and direct visitors and interns on farm chores and projects. Develop expertise in one or more areas of interest for a self-directed project and leadership role.
