FamilyFarmed.org has two new internship positions available at our Oak Park Office

FamilyFarmed.org is an Oak Park based non-profit organization that works to build local food systems. It connects local farmers with trade buyers and consumers through its website, EXPO, and programs. In 2007,Yahoo! named FamilyFarmed.org as the inaugural recipient of their Yahoo! for Good Green Award. Chicago Magazine recently declared FamilyFarmed.org to be one of its favorite websites. Special Events Intern

Status: PT unpaid internship.  Minimum commitment of 8 hours/week with an increase in hours before, during, and after March 11,12,13 event.  Position is available immediately, lasting through May 2010.

Position Description: The Special Events Intern is the go-to person for the Director of the FamilyFarmed.org EXPO. We are looking for a detail-oriented, “people person” with previous experience on special event or trade show floors.  This tech-savvy person will assist with database development, event communications, and event work plan implementation.   Position is at the FamilyFarmed.org office.  We will assist with your obtaining school credit for work performed.

Position Responsibilities include:
1. Assist EXPO Director with work plan oversight and implementation
2. Assist Team EXPO with occasional office technology needs
3. Manage content updates on EXPO website and social networking for the EXPO
4. Provide on site assistance at the EXPO March 11-13, 2010 (Substantially more hours than usual required that week)
5. Administrative Support
• Assist with day-to day event administration related needs as they arise
• Answer office phones and incoming emails
• Draft documents, letters, outreach materials, signage, and spreadsheets
• Communicate via phone calls, letters, conference calls, and emails with Team EXPO, partners, and exhibitors

Qualifications: BA/BS preferred.  Excellent and relevant technology and communication skills required. Proficient with MS Word and Excel.  Experience with Facebook Groups, Twitter, and other Web 2.0 applications a plus.

Technology Intern

Status: PT unpaid internship.  Minimum commitment of 10 hours/week and for 4 months.  Available immediately.

Position Description: The Technology Intern is a driving force behind key initiatives of FamilyFarmed.org. This Mac and tech-savvy person is responsible for researching, implementing, and managing the website development and e-marketing needs of FamilyFarmed.org along with project based needs such as webinars.

Position Responsibilities include:
1. Website development and maintenance
• Develop better organizational system and capacity for updating the websites
• Recommend and develop new look for primary website
• Perform regular website maintenance and update the content on the websites
• Maximize search engine optimization of websites
• Compile usage/traffic reports that speak to the impact of new efforts
• Research, recommend and implement new tools and techniques to reach a greater audience and have more impact

2. E-Marketing
• Maximize the potential of current system through reorganization
• Research, recommend and implement new tools and techniques to reach a greater audience and have more impact
• Prepare and send monthly e-newsletters
• Prepare and send other announcements, requests and surveys as needed
• Compile effectiveness reports that speak to the impact of e-marketing efforts

3. Project Work
• Perform agreed upon project based work such as coordinating and producing a webinar
• Research, recommend and implement new tools and techniques so that programs and projects reach a greater audience and have more impact

4. Administrative Support
• Assist with day-to day technology related needs as they arise

Qualifications: BA/BS preferred.  Excellent and relevant technology skills required. Proficient with web 2.0 applications and a Mac environment.
