USDA Small Scale Meat Processing Roundtables Continue in 2020

Last month, the Niche Meat Processors Assistance Network, along with the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC) and the Sustainable Food Center (SFC), hosted the first small and very small meat and poultry processing roundtable of 2020 in Austin, TX. We were excited to welcome the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Deputy Under Secretary of Food Safety, Dr. Mindy Brashears, back to Texas to continue these important conversations with the USDA’s Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS). RELEASE: Farmer Driven Conservation Outcomes Act to Strengthen Federal Conservation Programs

The Farmer Driven Conservation Outcomes Act, a bipartisan bill introduced today by Senators Bob Casey (D-PA) and Shelly Moore Capito (R-WV), and Representatives Marcia Fudge (D-OH) and Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (R-PA), will improve USDA conservation programs for American farmers and ensure the most efficient and effective use of taxpayer dollars. Specifically, the bill strengthens federal conservation programs by authorizing and providing funding for the measurement, evaluation, and reporting of USDA’s farm bill conservation program outcomes.

Want to help build national grassroots campaigns around issues like climate change, local food, and beginning farmers, and explore how these issues intersect with racial equity? Are you a creative communicator excited to translate complex policy work into compelling narratives? NSAC is hiring for multiple roles:

Grassroots Director: This role represents a unique opportunity to work with hundreds of sustainable food and agriculture community leaders nationwide on shared campaigns that build grassroots power, achieve NSAC’s federal policy goals, and advance racial equity in agriculture and food systems. NSAC is also hiring for two temporary roles that are a great fit for folks looking to learn and grow their skills: a Grassroots Intern to join our team for summer 2020 and a Communications & Development Fellow to work with us through the end of 2020.
